5 Card Stud Poker

Five-Card Stud is the oldest form of Stud Poker, and is still enjoyed by many people.

Antes
At first you start placing an ante, which is the amount you pay before the game starts to make sure there is money in the pot. There are four rounds of betting and it moves around clockwise. At the final round each player must have four cards facing up one card facing down.

Opening of the betting
All players are dealt out two cards; one card facing down and one card facing up. To find out whom starts out the round of betting you look at the face up card. The player with the lowest face up card starts betting. (Suits are ranged by the alphabet; Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts and Spades, with Spades as the highest).

There is a limit of three re-raises in all rounds of betting.

In the second round, another face up card is dealt out, and a new round of betting follows. The player which up cards makes the best hand starts the betting.

As a player you can either:

  • Fold (throw your cards on the table and let your turn and option pass)
  • Call (match the number of chips and continue)
  • Raise (increase the amount of the current bet)

This procedure continues until there are four cards facing up in front of every player and one card facing down in the final round. The best hand wins.

Five-Card Stud is summarized as 1 down, 4 up.
